Propagation
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during late spring to early summer.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glabrous dark green leaves are long linear and almost terete with a thick texture and a pointed apex.
Flower: The red labiate flowers have an upper hood of fused petals and a lower lip with the stamens protruding and the 5-lobed green calyx is persistent on the plant. The flowers appear during midsummer.
Fruit: The 2 to 4 chambered hard and woody drupe is indehiscent, dry and sometimes splitting at the apex. There are 1 to 3 hard-coated seeds per chamber and they are difficult to germinate. The plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
