Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in pots.
Graft during late winter on to rootstock.
Note:
Under cultivation the tree may attain a hight of 12m (40ft) but is normally pruned to facilitate easy cropping of the fruit.
Botanic information
Leaf: The large glossy dark green oblong leaves have prominentvenation on the upper surface and undulating margins. The petiole is short and the apex is acuminate.
Flower: The small white to pink crateriform flowers have 5-petals and sepals and are arranged in an axillary cyme, appearing on the branches and the trunk during spring.
Fruit: The pod-like follicle is ovoid, woody and ribbed. It takes up to 6 months to mature turning yellow-red. It contains 40 to 60 seeds, which are up to 25mm (1in) wide and is surrounded by sweetish pulp. The seed viability period is short.
