Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F).

Divide established clumps (rhizome) during early spring.

Culture
In cooler climates mulch the roots well during winter to protect from the cold.
As a container plant grow it in a loam based soil mix with ample organic matter. Mulch with rotted leaf mould and keep moist and humid during summer.


Botanic information
Leaf: The dull green pinnate leaves have narrow-obovate leaflets up to 150mm (6in) long and arranged on one side of the spiralled rachis.

Flower: The small short-lived tubulate flowers are arranged in a cone-shaped terminal spike. They are surrounded by waxy ovate bracts that are red and have a drooping acuminate apex. The jointed peduncle is from 30cm (1ft) to 2m (6ft) tall. They appear during late summer.

Fruit: The small capsule contains tiny seeds that are not commonly used and the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
