Note:
Once established this palm will tolerate hot dry conditions with strong winds. It will also grow in a semi-shaded position, but fruit poorly, preferring an open sunny position.
Botanic information
Leaf: The pinnate fronds have linear grey-green leaflets that are crowded and evenly spaced along the mid rib. The upper leaflets point up and the lower point down.
Flower: The male crateriform flowers are cream coloured and the female are yellowish and they are arranged in a pendant panicle that is up to 1m (3ft) long and appears from the leaf bases during late spring.
Fruit: The drupe matures to yellow-orange and the seeds are viable, but the seedlings may vary in form to the parents and so the plant is reproduced vegetatively in order to maintain true to type.
