Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 18º to 21º C. (64º to 75º F). Germination occurs between 20-40 days. When planting out space 9 m (30 ft) apart for group plantings.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glabrous leathery leaves are lanceolate to oblong with an acute apex and a petiole that is up to 20 mm (µ in) long. The new growth is reddish and pubescent along the margins.
Flower: The cyathiform flowers have 4-pubescent white petals and up to 60 stamens that are 4 mm long. They appear from axillary buds on the trunk and the larger branches during late spring to early summer.
Fruit: The globular drupe is purplish-black when ripe and is arranged in pendant clusters. The sweet fruit is edible and in warm climates the shrub may produce crops 4-5 times per year.
