Propagation
Divide established clumps (rhizome) during early spring while dormant. The rhizomes are slow to recover from division and care should be taken not to over water, causing rot.


Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are elliptical to ovate and are pubescent with a velvety texture. The petiole is short and the apex is acuminate. Its colour is dark green becoming purplish with a textured upper surface.

Flower: The flowers are salverform to tubulate with 5-expanding petals that are red, flecked in white and are pubescent all over. The flowers appear solitary in the leaf axils towards the top of the plant during early summer.

Fruit: The small capsule contains tiny seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
