Botanic information
Leaf: The aromatic awl leaves have an incurved bluntly acuminate apex and a central gland. The lateral pairs are closely appressed with spreading tips that have short points. The dead leaves persist on the plant.

Flower: The male and female strobili are found on the same tree. The angular female cone is greenish and the male is yellow to red. They appear from late spring to early summer.

Fruit: The tiny cones are green to purplish when young, and maturing to brown with up to 6-short pointed scales. The small winged seeds are oblong and viable and used to grow the species but the cultivars are reproduced vegetatively.
