Propagation
Sow fresh seed when ripe in containers and place in a cold frame or sow in a prepared bed. Seeds may require some stratification.
Botanic information
Leaf: The short 4-sided acicular leaves have a blunt obtuse apex with 2 to 4 stomatic bands on both sides and are arranged spirally along the stem. They are densely pressed along the branchlets when young.
Flower: The small reddish male pollen cones appeartowards the end of the branches. The greenish-purple female cones are up to 30mm (1¥in) long and appear during spring.
Fruit: The resinous short stalked cones are pointed and curved with persistent scales. The dark brown seed has a light brown wing that is up to 12mm (½in) wide.
