Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in a prepared bed.
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during early summer.


Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are elliptical to obovate and is glabrous except on the underside veins. The apex is abruptly acuminate and the petiole is up to 20mm (µin) long. During autumn the leaf turns red or yellow before falling.

Flower: The small white cyathiform flowers have a calyx that is pubescent on the inside and the petals are twice as long as the stamens. They are arranged densely in a pendant raceme that is up to 130mm (5in) long and appears with the leaves during spring.

Fruit: The dark red drupe is fleshy with a single hard centre (stone) pea size seed that is viable. It has a bitter taste and is sometimes used to flavour brandy or wine. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
