Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in a prepared bed or in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during late spring and semi hardwood cuttings during late summer.
Layering is carried out during the growing period.
Botanic information
Leaf: The broad ovate leaves have 3-lobes and are coarsely serrated along the margins with an acuminate apex and a petiole to 25mm (1in) long. During autumn the leaf turns yellow then red before falling.
Flower: The white tubular flowers have sterile florets that are lacecap-like and are arranged in a flattened terminal cyme that is up to 100mm (4in) wide. They appear from late spring to early summer.
Fruit: The red one seeded spherical drupe persists on the plant throughout winter. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be easily reproduced vegetatively.
