Propagation
Sow fresh seed when ripe and place in a cold frame to germinate or sow in a prepared bed.

Note:
This plant is not commonly cultivated and may be difficult to obtain requiring a specialist nursery.


Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are lanceolate to oblong and the margin may be double serrated with both sides being pubescent. The apex is acuminate and the pubescent petiole is short. During autumn the leaf turns rich yellow before falling and are a feature of the plant.

Flower: The male and female catkins are found on the same plant. The yellowish male flowers form during autumn and open in mid spring and the red female catkins appear with the developing leaves during spring.

Fruit: The small nut is enclosed in a bladder-like involucre that is light green.
