Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are ovate to oblong with an acuminate apex and a long slender petiole up to 40mm (1½in). The upper surface is glabrous and the underside is pubescent along the veins. During autumn the leaves turn yellow before falling.

Flower: The male and female flowers appear on different trees. The yellow-green male flowers are arranged in a dense spherical cluster and appear in early summer. The greenish cup-shaped (cyathiform) female flowers are short stalked and are arranged in short raceme that appears during early summer.

Fruit: The large heavy compound drupe ripens to yellow and after falling it splits open to exude white milky sap. The seeds are very viable and germinate easily but the tree requires long hot summers to produce fruit. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
