Propagation
Sow seed when ripe in a prepared bed or stratify before sowing in spring.
Note:
Care should be taken when selecting a sight as the tree has vigorous roots that can lift concrete and block drains.
Botanic information
Leaf: The bright green pinnate leaves have 7 to 19 oblong to broad-lanceolate leaflets that are pubescent on both sides and are aromatic. The bright to dark green leaflets are sessile with an acuminate apex and are arranged oppositely along the rachis.
Flower: The pendulous male catkins are up to 100mm (4in) long and appear on the previous seasons growth and the small female catkins appear on the current seasons growth during spring.
Fruit: The ovoid large clustered nut has a sticky green, pubescent husk that is thick and indehiscent. The oily seed has 2 to 5 ridges and is sweet tasting.
