Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in a prepared bed or in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.

Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during late spring and semi hardwood Cuttings during late summer.
Layering is carried out during the growing period.


Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green elliptical leaves upper surface has prominent veins giving a corrugated appearance and the underside is covered in white tomentose that extends along the short petiole. The margin is slightly undulating and the apex is acute.

Flower: The small tubulate flowers have pink buds and are arranged in a domed terminal cyme that is up to 100mm (4in) wide and appears during spring.

Fruit: The small blue-black drupe contains seeds that are viable but the species often hybridise. To maintain continuity it is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
