Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in a prepared bed or in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.

Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during late spring and semi hardwood Cuttings during late summer.
Layering is carried out during the growing period.


Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are ovate to oblong and is light green on the underside. The upper surface has prominent venation with an acuminate apex and the reddish petiole is long. During autumn the leaves turn an intense orange-red to purple before falling.

Flower: The small very fragrant red to white tubulate flowers are arranged in a terminal or axillary cluster that is up to 70mm (3in) wide and appear on bare wood throughout winter.

Fruit: The one seeded berry-like drupe is blue-black to purple maturing in spring. The plant is almost sterile and only produces a small amount of fruit but the plant may be easily reproduced vegetatively.
