Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in a prepared bed or in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during late spring and semi hardwood cuttings during late summer.
Layering is carried out during the growing period.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are ovate to elliptical and are bright green when young becoming dull dark green. It has an acuminate apex and a short reddish petiole to 20mm (µin) long. The upper surface is prominently veined. During autumn the leaf turns orange-red before falling.
Flower: The small white tubulate flower have yellow stamens are arranged in a sessile flat cyme that is up to 100mm (4in) wide and appear during spring.
Fruit: The one seeded berry-like drupe is bluish-black when mature in autumn and persists on the plant into winter. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be easily reproduced vegetatively.
