Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in a prepared bed or in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.

Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during late spring and semi hardwood cuttings during late summer.
Layering is carried out during the growing period.


Botanic information
Leaf: The broad ovate to oblong grey-green leaves are up to 100mm (4in) wide and have dense stellate tomentose on the underside. The upper surface is wrinkled with an acute apex and the petiole is up to 37mm (1½in) long. During autumn the leaves turn reddish before falling.

Flower: The small white tubulate flowers are arranged in a loose flattened domed cyme that is up to 100mm (4in) wide and appear during spring.

Fruit: The small one seeded ovoid berry-like drupe that is red turning to black when mature during autumn and persist on the tree in winter. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be easily reproduced vegetatively.
