Sow fresh seed during spring in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.

Botanic information
Leaf: The bright green acicular leaves are arranged in pairs and persisti on the tree up to 5-years They are thick textured with a pointed apex and are slightly twisted. They are arranged densely on the shoots pointing forward with stomatic bands on both sides and the sheath is up to 12mm (½in) long.

Flower: The tree is monoecious and the male catkin-likestrobili are reddish turning yellow and are arranged in a cluster. The female strobili are purplish-red and appear during early summer.

Fruit: The long ovoid-conical light brown cones have a short stalk and consist of flattened scales that have a small spine. They are solitary or arranged in large groups up to 50. When open they release winged seeds.
