Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during the growing period.
Botanic information
Leaf: The bright green leaves are obovate to oblong, with an acute to acuminate apex and a petiole up to 12mm (½in) long. When crushed the leaves release a spicy odour. The leaves turn orange-yellow during autumn before falling.
Flower: The yellowish-green dioecious stellate flowers appear in an axillary umbel before the leaves during spring.
Fruit: The spherical, glossy red-brown berry-like drupe appears only on the female plants. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be easily reproduced vegetatively.
