Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate, which may take up to two years.
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during late spring to early summer and place on a misting bench. Air layering is carried out during the growing period or division of suckers.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are obovate to oblong and has a leathery texture and is tomentose beneath. The margin is entire at the base, becoming dentate to serrate towards the apex. The apex is acute and the petiole is 12mm (½in) long.
Flower: The tiny apetalous flower has stamens that are up to 25mm (1in) long and are arranged in an upright terminal spike that appears before the leaves during spring. The flower buds are ovoid and are up to 6mm (¥in) wide.
Fruit: The fruit is a small beaked capsule and the black seeds are viable but slow to germinate. It is normally reproduced vegetatively.
