Propagation
Sow fresh seeds in situ or in a container when ripe.
Plant up quickly as the taproot develops rapidly and is difficult to transplant.

Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green pinnate leaves have 5 to 9 lanceolate to ovate leaflets that are 75-150mm (3-6in) long with a short, slightly pubescent petiole and an acuminate apex. During autumn the leaves turn a brilliant yellow before falling and are a feature of the tree.

Flower: The small male and female catkins appear on the same plant. The yellow green male catkins appear in groups of three and are up to 75mm (3in) long. The inconspicuous female flowers appear in a terminal spike on the branchlets with the new leaves during spring.

Fruit: The spherical nut is enclosed in a thick green husk and has 4-obvious ridges. It is edible but is unpalatable.
