Botanic information
Leaf: The bright green leaves are elliptical to ovate with prominent venation on the upper surface and the leaf margin is serrated in the upper half. The apex is acuminate and the leaves are sessile. During autumn the leaves turn purplish before falling.
Flower: The pink tubulate flowers have 4-petals that are fused at the base and have exserted yellow stamens. They are arranged in a axillary cyme that is up to 30mm (1¥in) wide and appear amongst the foliage during summer.
Fruit: The small oval berry appears in a dense cluster along the stems amongst the leaves. The berries are an attractive feature of the plant, persisting for up to 1-month after the leaves have fallen. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
