Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.

Divide suckers during spring.

Note:
When grown on very fertile soils the growth rate is fast and the wood is soft and vulnerable to frosts. It may also be grown in a semi-shaded position with protection fro wind that damages the large leaves.


Botanic information
Leaf: The mid-green bipinnate leaves have up to 80 ovate leaflets that are 120mm (5in) long. They are lighter green on the underside and pubescent along the veins when young. The apex is acuminate and the petiole is short with a small spine on the rachi between the leaflets.

Flower: The small cream unisexual crateriform flowers have 5-petals and are arranged in a panicle-like, terminal compound umbel up to 450mm (18in) wide and appear during late summer and persist on the plant into autumn.

Fruit: The small berry-like spherical drupe is up to 12mm (¥in) wide green maturing to purplish black and contains 3 to 5 hard coated seeds. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be easily reproduced vegetatively.
