Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.
Take semi-hardwood cuttings taken during late summer and placed in a protected environment during winter.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green are ovate to oblong with an acuminate apex and finely serrated margin. The reddish petiole is up to 50mm (2in) long and young leaves have a silvery pubescence. The buds are small and concealed.
Flower: The male and female are found on separate plants appearing on the previous season`s growth. The small white flowers have a brownish base, turning orange yellow with age and are normally arranged in a axillary cluster of three during early summer.
Fruit: The small oblong yellow-green berry is only found on female plants. The flesh is lime-green and the seeds are brown. When eaten they have a Gooseberry flavour. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively in order to maintain true to type.
