Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.


Botanic information
Leaf: The sessile leaves are scale-like and lay flat along the twigs, appearing in early summer. When young the bright leaves are upright along the branches and during autumn the foliage turns coppery brown and the tree sheds lateral twigs not individual leaves.

Flower: The male catkin-like cones appear in groups of 2 to 3 and grow to 120mm (4µin) long before shedding pollen. The small rounded greenish female cones are composed of bracts and scales up to 25mm (1in) wide. Tey appear in early spring.

Fruit: The globular purplish brown resinous cones have several large woody scales with thick margins and no distinct bracts. It contains 2 to 9 seeds and the cone is resinous.
