Propagation
Sow fresh seed when ripe in a prepared bed or stratify before sowing.
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during early summer.
Note:
Avoid pruning during winter or early spring as the oozing sap may encourage fungal disease. When used as a cut flower cut back stem to the nearest node on the stem.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are oval to obovate with a short petiole, finely serrated margins and an acuminate apex. During autumn the leaves turn reddish before falling and the leaf may be pubescent on the underside.
Flower: The profuse small cyathiform flowers are arranged in an axillary raceme and are pink fading to white. They appear before or with the new foliage in groups or 3 or 4 blooms during spring.
Fruit: The small dark purple drupe produces seed that may not germinate true to type. The small seed is not commonly used and the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
