Propagation
Sow fresh seed when ripe in a prepared bed or stratify before sowing.
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during early summer.
Note:
Avoid pruning during winter or early spring as the oozing sap may encourage fungal disease. When used as a cut flower cut back stem to the nearest node on the stem.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green leaves are broad elliptical to obovate with a quilted appearance on the upper surface. It has a petiole up to 20mm (µin) longand an abruptly acuminate apex with a finely serrated margin.
Flower: The small cyathiform flowers are normally white but sometimes yellow. They consist of 5-petals and are arranged in an axillary raceme and accompanied by the new leaves. They appear during spring.
Fruit: The dark purple drupe is fleshy with a single hard centre (stone) pea size and has an astringent, acidic taste. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
