Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.
Divide established clumps (rhizome) during winter to early spring while dormant.
Botanic information
Leaf: The mid-green leaves are oblong to lanceolate with a coarsely serrated margin. They are arranged in opposite pairs alternately up the stem and have a very short petiole and an acuminate apex.
Flower: The 2-lipped tubulate flowers have an inflated flattish upper lip and the lower is divided into 3-lobes. The calyx is tubular and the flowers are arranged on a terminal panicled spike in 2-flowered whorls and appear during midsummer.
Fruit: The tiny fruit is composed of 4 nutlets. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be easily reproduced vegetatively.
