Propagation
Sow fresh seed in pots. The seedlings may not be true to type due to natural hybridisation.

Divide the rhizome during autumn.
Plant out at 300mm (1ft) spacings.


Botanic information
Leaf: The white-flecked green leaves are elliptical to oval and the stem leaves are smaller and arranged alternately. The margin is undulating and the upper surface is slightly pubescent.

Flower: The funnelform flowers are red-violet, violet or white with 5-spreading petals and green calyces. They are arranged in a terminal cyme above the foliage and appear during spring.

Fruit: The schizocarpic nut produces small seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
