Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in pots and place in an open frame to germinate.
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during the growing period.
Take root cuttings of young wood or layering during summer.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are broadly ovate with long acuminate apex and a long slender petiole. The leaves may develop three lobes and the underside is densely pubescent.
Flower: The 2-lipped campanulate flowers have purple spotted throats with yellow markings and expanded petals with wavy margins. They are arranged in a terminal panicle that is up to 200mm (8in) tall on short peduncle and appear during summer.
Fruit: The pendant cylindrical pod-like capsule is long and slender. It contains numerous small winged seeds that are dispersed by wind. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
