Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in beds or in pots and place in a cold frame. Do not allow the seeds to dry out prior to sowing.

Divide suckers or root-cuttings that are up to 80mm (3in) long during spring.


Botanic information
Leaf: The mid-green palmate leaves have 5 to 7-ovate to oval leaflets that have prominentvenation on the upper surface and pubescent on the underside. The leaflets are up to 230mm (9in) long and have a short reddish petiole. The leaves turn yellow during autumn berfore falling.

Flower: The tubulate flowers have 5-white expanded petals and long protruding stamens with red style and anthers. They are arranged in a cylindrical terminal panicle that is up to 300mm (1ft) tall and are held above the foliage during summer.

Fruit: The smooth skinned dehiscent capsule contains two rounded brown seeds that have a bitter taste and are not edible. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
