Propagation
Sow seed when ripe in pots and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F), and apply bottom heat. Germination takes from 1 to 2 years.
Culture
As a container plant keep the soil moist but not wet and regularly mist the leaves especially during dry periods or if placed in an air-conditioned environment.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green pinnate fronds are whorled to spirally arranged and have flat leathery leaflets that are up to 12mm (½in) wide by 125mm (5in) long and each have a yellow basal gland.
Flower: The male and female cones appear on separate plants. The male sporophylls have many small pollen sacks on the under surface releasing vast quantities of pollen and split spirally when mature. The female sporophyll is covered in a brown felt-like tomentose and is up to 750mm (30in) long. They appear during early summer.
Fruit: The large ovoid female cones produce large orange-yellow seeds.
