Propagation
Sow fresh seeds in situ during spring in warm climates and in pots with protection in cool climates. Care should be taken when planting seedlings not to disturb the root ball.
Sow seeds in 2 rows at a depth of 50mm (2in) and 300mm (1ft) apart then keep moist.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are broad-ovate with a dull green underside and prominentveins. The petiole may be short or long and the apex is acute.
Flower: The red papillionate flowers are arranged in an axillary cluster that appears during summer.
Fruit: The flattened pods have a fleshy texture and contain broad seeds that are up to 25mm (1 in) long. The pods are vitamin rich and may be eaten raw or cooked.
