Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 10º to 13º C. (50º to 55º F).
Divide established clumps during spring.
Botanic information
Leaf: The basal leaves have up to 12 lanceolate leaflets that are pinnately lobed or serrated and are covered in soft silver hairs. The smaller sessile stem leaves are arranged spirally and when crushed the leaves are strongly aromatic.
Flower: The radiate flowers are composed of yellow disc florets and small white ray florets and forms a rounded head. These are arranged in a terminal corymb that appears during late summer.
Fruit: The small seed is not commonly used and the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
Note
Tanacetum balsamitais a bitter astringent, laxative herb but is now obsolete medicinally but was used as a liver and gall balder remedy. It was also use in brewing beer hence its common name Alecost.
