Propagation
Sow fresh seed when ripe and maintain a temperature of 18º to 21º C. (64º to 75º F).
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during the growing period.
Divide established clumps (rhizome) during spring.
Botanic information
Leaf: The mid-green leaves are obovate to narrow elliptical (Ginger-like) and have a fleshy leathery texture. The apex is acuminate and the base clasps the stem and the margins are entire but tend to undulate.
Flower: The 3-pettaled tubulate flowers are arranged in a terminal spike-like head and are accompanied by red or yellow-green bracts that are persistent on the plant. The flowering period is mainly during summer but blooms may appear throughout the year.
Fruit: The small capsule contains tiny seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
