Propagation
Sow fresh seeds from autumn to spring in pots and in cold climates place in a cold frame.


Botanic information
Leaf: The bright green acicular to linear leaves are arranged in pairs persisting on the plant for 3-years and are twisted. Both sides have stomatic bands and the midrib is raised. The cylindrical red-brown buds are up to 12mm (½in) long and slightly resinous.

Flower: The tree is monoecious. The staminate (male) catkin-like flowers appear in a cluster and the small female cones are yellowish. They appear during spring.

Fruit: The pendant long-ovoid cones are up to 25mm (1in) wide and are yellow-purplish. They mature in the second year and persist on the tree for 3-years. They are arranged solitary or in small clusters and are an attractive feature of the plant.
