Propagation
Sow fresh seed and maintain a temperature of 18º to 21º C. (64º to 75º F).
Divide the rhizome during spring and offsets (plantlets) during summer.
Botanic information
Leaf: The large glossy green lanceolate leaves are arranged in 2-ranks alternately along the stems and have a leathery texture. They have a short petiole and a prominent mid rib on the underside.
Flower: The small slightly hooded campanulate flowers have 3-calyx lobes and 3-petals with a lobed lip and are enclosed in bright red bracts and plantlets occur within the bracts taking root when the flower falls. They are arranged in a slightly pendant terminal raceme that appears during summer.
Fruit: The capsule is ovoid shaped and the small seed is not
