Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.
Divide the rhizome during spring.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are oblong to broad lanceolate with deep lobes that have a stiff spine. The margins are undulating and the upper surface is glossy dark green with silver markings.
Flower: The 2-lipped tubulate flowers are accompanied by yellow-green bracts and are arranged in an upright terminal raceme to 300mm (1ft) tall. They appear during midsummer.
Fruit: The fruit is a dry capsule and the small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
