Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn and in cold climates place in a cold frame.
Divide established clumps (rhizome) during spring.
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during the growing period.
Botanic information
Leaf: The grey-green leaves are elliptical to spathulate with a coarsely serrated margin on the upper part and tapering towards the base. The texture is thick and the surface is covered in fine hairs with the colour varying from purple through to green.
Flower: The small white crateriform flowers have 4-sepals and petals with a greenish centre and open consecutively. They are arranged in a loose terminal raceme that is up to 80mm (3in) long held above the foliage during spring. There is also a double form avalable.
Fruit: The small siliqua fruit is long and narrow and the seeds may be winged. The fruit is not commonly seen and the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
