Propagation
Sow seeds when ripe and they may require scarification. Place in a well-drained media and apply bottom heat at 27ºC (81ºF)
Note:
Care should be taken when handling as the fruit is covered in oxalic acid crystals, which irritate the skin.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green bipinnate fronds have up to 50 wedge-shaped leaflets that are to 300mm (12in) long and the petiole has a sheathed base.
Flower: The 2-tiny male and 1-female crateriform flowers have 3-sepals and 3-petals that are arranged alternately in pendulous axillary panicle that is up to 4m (12ft) long. The female flowers have a 2 to 3 cell ovary with a single ovule. They appear during early summer.
Fruit: The globose drupe is yellow-green maturing to dark red containing one seed. The seed coat is thick and hard.
