Propagation
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during late spring and semi hardwood cuttings during summer. Hardwood cuttings are taken in late summer.
General pruning information
This plant may be trimmed to form a hedge with regular light prune using hedge clippers. This is usually carried out after flowering. The plant may also be rejuvenated by cutting back to near ground level using a pruning saw and it will recover from frost damage.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green leaves are oval to obovate with an obtuse apex and a short petiole.
Flower: The tubulate flowers have 5-spreading petals with prominent stamens and pistil. They are arranged in a terminal panicle that is up to 150mm (6in) wide and appears from late spring to summer.
Fruit: The small globular capsule contains many fine seeds thatare viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
