Propagation
Sow fresh seed from autumn to spring and in cold climates place in a cold frame.
Take semi-hardwood cuttings taken during summer.
Botanic information
Leaf: The mid-green leaves are ovate to broad lanceolate and turn coppery colour during autumn. The apex is acuminate and the base is slightly cordate. The reddish brown buds are up to 3mm (?in) long and have several scales.
Flower: The tiny campanulate flowers appear during autumn and open in late winter to spring before the new leaves. They are arranged in a axillary raceme to 100mm (4in) long and are pendant giving the plant a graceful appearance.
Fruit: The ellipsoidal to globose berry is a yellowish at maturity and contains numerous seeds that have endosperm. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
