Propagation
Sow fresh seed from autumn to spring and in cold climates place in a cold frame.
Divide offsets during summer when bulbs are dormant.
Botanic information
Leaf: The mid-green linear leaves have an upper surface that is channelled and a fleshy texture. They are arranged in basal tufts and are upright to sprawling and appearing after the summer dormancy period.
Flower: The urceolate flowers are arranged in a terminal raceme that is up to 50mm (2in) long and stands upright on a long scape. The blue nodding flowers have 6-fused petals that form a constricted white mouth and appear during early spring.
Fruit: The small capsule may contain many seeds that have endosperm. The small seed is not commonly seen and the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
