Botanic information
Leaf: The lanceolate leaves are arranged in a fan-shaped and are sheath from the base of the plant and may droop after reaching mature hight. The thick textured leaves are glossy green on the upper surface and glaucous on the underside.
Flower: The flattish crateriform flowers consist of 3-large outer petals commonly called falls and are normally crested in yellow plus 3-inner petals that are called standards. The pistil is a pale mauve and parallel to the crest. The margins of the petals are frilled and the flowers appear during spring.
Fruit: The small 3 to 6 angular leathery capsule contains the numerous seeds. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type. All parts of the plant if ingested will cause severe stomach upset.
