Propagation
Sow fresh seed from autumn to spring and in cold climates place in a cold frame.
Take semi-hardwood cuttings taken during summer.
Aerial layering is carried out during the growing period.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are oblong-oval to broad lanceolate and have a leathery texture and the undersides are covered in tiny brown silky pubescence. The apex is acuminate and the petiole is short.
Flower: The magnolia-like white cyathiform flowers appear solitary in the leaf axils with 12 to 16 petals and have a yellowish centre that consist of both male and female parts. They appear during spring.
Fruit: The small axillary fruit is a follicle that is cone-like. The small seed is not commonly seen and the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
