Propagation
Divide tubers during spring and treat wounds with fungicide. Place in a container of peat moss and potted up as roots develop maintain a temperature of 24ºC (75ºF).
It may also be grown from seed during spring.
Culture
When growingCaladiumspecies never allow the temperature to drop below 16ºC (60ºF). Place in a protected environment in cool climates.
The plant prefers a bright well lit position but no direct sun and water freely during summer.
Dormant carefor potted plants
During winter keep the pots warm and stop watering or lift and place tubers in moist peat moss. Re-plant during spring in a fresh loamless well drained compost mix.
Botanic information
Leaf: The large cordate leaves have spotted or streaked coloured markings that emanate from the central veins or are splatted over the face of the leaf. The leaf stalk is long and fleshy and during winter the leaves die back to the tuber.
Flower: The tiny flowers are arranged on spadices that are shorter than the enveloping white spathe that is green-violet at the throat. They appear during summer and are not a feature of the plant and may not form under cultivation.
Fruit: The small berry is not commonly seen and the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
