Botanic information
Leaf: The linear leaves are flattened cylindrical shape with some expanding from the mid rib to form a pitcher with a nectar roll at the apex. This is accompanied by a hood that is an extension of the mid rib. These are heavily veined and translucent.

Note
The hood and the nectar roll are covered in nectar glands that attract the insects. The hood has short pointed hairs to provide a foot hold for the insects which follow the nectar trail to the nectar roll which is hairless and slippery.

The insect falls into the pitcher where it is trapped by long downward pointing hairs and its soft tissue is dissolved by digestive enzymes. The pitcher continues catching insects with the exoskeletons being crushed by the weight of new victims.

Flower: The cyathiform flowers are pendant with the sepals forming a canopy over the enlarged style that resembles an inverted umbrella. The longer true petals drape down and out of the notches in the 5 lobes of the style. The colour varies from yellow-red to green.

Fruit: The seed head retains the curious shaped style and discards the petals and sepals. The capsule has 5-ovaries that contain minute seeds. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
