Propagation
Sow fresh seeds from autumn to spring and in cold climates place in a cold frame.
Divide established clumps (rooted stems) during spring.
Take soft tip cuttings of basal shoots during the growing period.
Culture
This plant requires well drained soils and will rot in wet soils.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are elliptical to oval with a slightly serrated margin and a short petiole. The texture is thick and the leaves are aromatic when crushed.
Flower: The mauve tubulate flowers have 2-lips with the lower lip having a whitish mark and the flowers are arranged in an axillary whorled spike that appears during summer.
Fruit: The small nutlets are produced in cooler climates. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
