Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during spring and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F).
Takes semi-hardwood cuttings taken during summer apply bottom heat.
Botanic information
Leaf: The inverse lanceolate leaves have a pubescent leathery texture and an entire margin. The apex is acute and tends to become reddish.
Flower: The tiny tubulate flowers are arranged in a terminal head that is up to 30mm (1¥in) wide and surrounded by leaf-like bracts. The female flower is white-green and the male is reddish and surrounded by creamy leafy bracts that are tinged in red or turn red. They appear from late spring to early summer.
Fruit: The cone-like nut contains small nuts. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
General pruning information
This plant tolerates a light prune directly after flowering but will not regenerate if pruned hard into old wood. Lightly pruned plants form a compact habit producing more flowers.
