Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during spring in pots and in cool climates place in a cold frame.

Divide established clumps (rhizome) during spring.
Plant out 90cm (3ft) apart at a depth of 10cm (4in) below soil.

Botanic information
Leaf: The leaf shape is ovate to oblong and the margin tends to be undulate with the upper surface of the leaf crinkled. The petiole and main vein are reddish, thick with a fleshy texture. Care should be taken as the leaves are poisonous.

Flower: The tiny stellate flowers are arranged in spike-like panicle on a scape up to 2m (6ft) during summer.

Fruit: The small achene are triangular and winged. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.

Planting
Prepare a hole that is 60cm (2ft) deep and add compost or well-rotted manure to the soil. Plant the rhizome at 10cm (4in) below the soil.

Forcing
The plant may be forced by planting in a container or lifting and being placed in a dark situation.
